A week after an outbreak of violence in Clacton on Easter weekend 1964, Panorama caught up with a group of Mods and Rockers to talk about their tribal codes, find out what fuelled their rivalry and discover whether there would be further trouble next Bank Holiday. Here, the Mods tell their story.

I have a mobile broadband account with o2. It’s the £15 per month package with the Novatel MC930D USB dongle. I am running this on a MacBook Pro which is brand new (Nov 08).
Since I have had the account I have had nothing but trouble with the connection dropping every so often. It can drop from anywhere between 5 minutes to 30 minutes, and its a pain in the backside. I have checked the advanced settings to ensure that it stays connected, re installed new Novatel drivers and it still drops the connection. I have even attempted speaking to o2 support (ag ag ag)
o2 have been helpless as it appears they don’t really support us Mac users. One mention of a Mac and you can hear them choking and gagging to get you off the line, with endless promises to phone you back ‘once the have spoken to THE Mac guy’
They have never phoned me back, so I figure the Mac guy must have swine flu or something.
Well if you are a Mac user with o2 mobile broadband and are having the same problems… I have stumbled across a solution… Spotify!
If you download Spotify (the music app that streams music), it seems to fix the problem, regardless of whether you have anything playing or not. Obviously the app is forcing the connection to stay open, but hey! It works AND its cool application to have running, so its a win win situation.
I figure that this solution would work with any app that relies on a constant connection, such as Vuze etc, but haven’t tried any others.
Obviously if anyone has any other solutions I would be glad to hear about them.

In 2008, 30,055 readers took part in the A List Apart Survey. Once more, data analysts Alan Brickman and Larry Yu crunched numbers this way and that. With a global recession in full swing as of December 2007, we were particularly interested to find out how financially and professionally secure web people felt, and whether there were discernible differences in the way people responded to questions about satisfaction and security in 2008, compared with 2007.
Makes interesting reading for any web designer out there

My iTunes collection is now at 17805 tunes! I have come across what looks to be an outstanding tool that will ‘clean up’ my iTunes library, download missing cover art and will automatically fix mislabeled music! Hmmm sounds good
If anyone out there has used this tool I would be grateful to find out if works?
